Washington DC – Musical duo Bluebrain has released The National Mall album as an iPhone app. The application album by the Washington DC-based brand responds to the listener’s location in a downtown shopping mall in the city.
Hundreds of places in the mall are tagged and alter the sound based on where the GPS technology is being used. The app also contains a comprehensive map of the mall designed by Danny Jones of the Florida-based design collective YASLY, as well as a visual compliment to the album designed by Ryan Halladay, also from YASLY. This audio-visual map draws customers to a certain location with the promise of an enhanced experience once they arrive.
Location-based apps are increasingly being used to enable people to explore and discover their surroundings. This was a prevalent trend at this years’ SXSW show.
