In the hot seat: Designers weave their magic

14 : 01 : 2011 Heimtextil : Frankfurt : Textile

Frankfurt – Textile and Surface Design graduates from Kumsthochschule Berlin Weissensee, Lisa Spengler and Moa Hallgren, have collaborated to form Lum!. For their final project, REMÖTIL, they used donated clothes and fabrics, and discarded furniture found on the streets of Berlin.

‘We wanted to be inspired by the found pieces,’ Hallgren tells LS:N Global. ‘We experimented with different techniques, rethinking how the fabric might look by turning it back into yarn and weaving a new piece.’

Exhibiting at Heimtextil in halls 4.2, stand H90, Lum! presented different ways of taking over the structure of a chair, adapting textile techniques to the seat, back and leg. They even adapted a chair and table top to make a thickly woven rug.

The Mix Mash of interwoven re-used fabrics translated into 3D forms illustrates Lum!’s experimental craftsmanship.

LS:N Global’s Emma Chiu is attending the Heimtextil exhibition in Frankfurt and will be reporting on the show throughout the week.
