Chengdu – Zaha Hadid Architects has unveiled plans for the largest cultural building in China.
The Chengdu contemporary art centre in Sichuan Province will house commercial offices, shopping centres and cultural and tourism venues as well as leisure and entertainment complexes.
Due to be completed in 2012, the ‘Gemini of the South’ centre will be the largest arts and cultural centre in western China, with a 30,000sqm museum of contemporary art, a 12,000sqm exhibition hall and a 1,800-seat grand theatre. It will also include seven four- and five-star hotels.
