Amsterdam – A new open-source project lets users find edible species around them and add new ones when they find them.
The Boskoi app by foragers Urban Edibles, initiated by design collective FoAM, provides an ‘augmented foraging’ map. The app lays out a map of local fruits and herbs such as rosehip and elderberry.
Initially, the platform was created so that people can see what happens in crisis situations, such as the 2008 election in Kenya. Now it aims to develop new networks between people and their environment.
Technology will be a key tool in the Rurban Revolution. Another example is the Swedish mobile phone app Gårdsbutiker that uses a smartphone’s GPS capability to locate the nearest farm shops.
