London – In the latest show of brand patronage, Swedish fashion brand COS has unveiled an artistic short film created by director Karan Kandhari for the Frieze Art Fair and its Frame initiative for solo artists.
The short leads with a model dressed in black against a grey background – a perfect representation of the muted palette for which the fashion label is best known. But instead of a normal photo shoot, where the model simply poses, the frame is gradually invaded by splashes of colour: first a sheet of red paper, then blue, yellow and red balloons in turn followed by multicoloured ribbons and bouncing red balls.
‘The initial inspiration for the piece came from the colour palette of the COS fall/winter collection,’ Kandhari says. ‘The base palette is made up of deep greys and creams, and, every now and then, the collection sees a bold burst of colour, such as blood red, gold and cyan.’
