The collection includes a range of Cloud-connected furniture, an associated app and a dashboard that collates information about employee preferences.

Employees can save aspects such as their preferred desk height and the furniture will automatically adjust itself. Sensors embedded in the desk will track usage data and send this to the dashboard to give employers real-time feedback on workplace performance. The brand hopes that this level of personalisation and oversight will encourage healthier working habits.

‘With the data insights captured through Live OS, organisations can better measure and manage workplace strategy to optimise real estate usage and improve employee experience,’ says Ryan Anderson, Herman Miller’s director of commercialisation for Live OS. ‘Our initial testing indicates that employees using Live sit-to-stand desks have become more active, transitioning between sitting and standing six times as often as previously recorded.’

The Big Picture

  • Brands such as Herman Miller and Ori are exploring how the future of furniture can be automated and active rather than static
  • Creating a workplace with as much emphasis on employee health and wellbeing as on efficiency has become key to attracting the best people. Read our Workplace Summit report for more
