New York – A designer has developed a new type of user experience with the technology of augmented reality.
Joon Moon’s Augmented Shadow project produces an artificial shadow effect through the movement of blocks on a tabletop interface.
In accordance with the physics of the real world, shadows are displayed below the blocks. By moving the blocks around, however, the shadows are transformed into houses and trees.
‘The unexpected experience results from manipulating the user’s visual perceptions, expectations and imagination,’ explains Moon. ‘In this way users play with the shadows lying on the boundary between the ‘real, virtual and fantasy.’
The project could be a great way to engage consumers in spaces such as bars. The collaboration between performer and audience is an example of the ways in which brands can interact with consumers, as explored in our Brandtocracies trend report.
