Europe – Lucky Trip is the online equivalent of booking your next holiday by blindfolding yourself and throwing a dart at a map.

  • Booking a holiday is, in theory, as little as two clicks away, thanks to the app’s stripped down experience
  • Lucky Trip aggregates real-time prices using partners Sky Scanner, Booking.com and TripAdvisor

Mobile app Lucky Trip helps users to plan everything for a quick getaway to a European destination with one simple tap. To get going, simply suggest a maximum budget and let Lucky Trip’s random generator do the rest.

There are, of course, filters for those who rely a little less on serendipity, so users can set dates and enter preferences, but even so, there is an expectation to relinquish control and let the app do the work.

On entering a budget figure of £300 ($456, €429), for example, Lucky Trip suggested a three-day trip to the Slovakian town of Trnava, including a stay at a highly rated hotel and wine-tasting at a local vineyard.

The Big Picture

Choice isn’t always a good thing and travellers are turning to apps to help cut through the noise and find a competitive price. Read our Algorithm Tourism microtrend for more.
