London – Digital platform Nataal celebrates contemporary African culture through the best in fashion, music and art.
Founded by Mauritanian native Sy Alassane, Nataal highlights the people and products that are bringing Africa to the forefront of the world stage, and offers an insight into trends developing among Africa’s rapidly growing middle class. This new middle class has instigated an explosion in the continent’s commodities market and stimulated a wave of internal creativity.
The website, which is described as ‘a space for exploration and debate’, features interviews with local and international personalities, ranging from fashion designers to chefs, who convey a particular interest in African culture.
‘Our passion is for communicating Africa’s successes in a fresh and distinctive way, and we hope this platform provides a space for exploration and debate,’ Helen Jennings, editorial director of Nataal, tells LS:N Global. ‘[The website] is just the start – we want to grow to become a global media voice across multiple platforms.’
The Big Picture: Since 2012, LS:N Global has tracked the explosion in luxury and lifestyle media tailored to Africa’s growing middle class. To learn more, check out our New Emerging Affluents macrotrend.
