Palo Alto, California – Google-owned Nest Labs has launched its latest security product for the connected home, the Nest Cam.

  • Product joins range that includes smart thermostat and smoke alarms
  • Nest Cam builds on features of the Nest-acquired Dropcam

The Nest Cam has a 130-degree viewing angle and is able to film in full high-definition video quality. The device is mounted on a magnetic base that enables it to be twisted and bent to any angle, and it can even be hung upside down on the ceiling. Other features of the Nest Cam include night vision and motion detection.

Users can live-stream the video feed from their Nest Cam directly to their phone or computer, and have the option of subscribing for an additional monthly fee to save up to 10 or 30 days’ worth of video content.

The subscription also gives users access to an alert summary, which highlights the moments when there is motion or sound in the home, and activity zones, which enable users to receive alerts on specific areas.

Nest is also collaborating with YouTube to give users the ability to stream their Nest Cam directly to YouTube Live.

The Big Picture: Technology brands are creating more devices to help consumers monitor their homes. Read our Innovate on Mother to learn more.
