30 : 06 : 2015 Nendo : Nature’s Way : Beauty Library

Tokyo – Interior design studio Nendo has created Beauty Library, a retail space that will have customers struggling to remain silent.

  • Colourfully packaged products are arranged on floor-to-ceiling wooden shelving units
  • QR codes placed next to each item enable shoppers to take home the information about that product and buy later

Created for organic cosmetics company Nature’s Way, the beauty boutique-meets-café focuses on the intersection between inner and outer beauty, pairing cosmetics products with a healthy menu of salads and smoothies.

Towering shelves stacked like supermarket aisles host intimate self-study areas where customers are encouraged to get to know the products on display. Here they can sample products and store information on their mobile devices using QR codes to buy online later.

‘In this way, the store not only sells cosmetics products, but is also a place where knowledge relating to them can be obtained,’ says Nendo. ‘Therefore it can be described as a library-like space with well-organised wooden shelves.’
