Ethereal elements: Book explores the future of materials

20 : 02 : 2015 Studio Aikieu : Material Alchemy : Whole-systems Thinking

London – Material Alchemy is a new book exploring the future of materials with a focus on how current technology and practices are synthesising links between the natural and man-made worlds.

The book from Studio Aikieu’s materiologist Jenny Lee charts the innovations across many disciplines that all have had a hand in getting material technologies to where they are today.

Lee examines forward-thinking practices in the fields of gastronomy, product design and manufacturing, to name but a few, showing how trends such as Whole-chain Thinking and Awakening Tech are breeding imaginative and spellbinding creative solutions to material problems.

‘Our traditional material palette is disappearing from a virgin perspective so we’re creating new palettes through bio-hacking and technology to create optimal materials,’ says creative consultant and future forecaster Philippa Wagner, who wrote the foreword for the book.
