Stockholm – Presenting the talent of established Nordic designers, Twelve returns to the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair (SFF) in 2015, this time with the exhibition theme of Methods – 12 methods that investigate contemporary design culture.

Curated by Disegno magazine editor-in-chief Johanna Agerman Ross, the exhibit is a showcase for methodologies both familiar and speculative, all visually articulated through prototypes and experiments not yet in production. The interior architecture of the space, designed by studio Folkform, references classic historic monuments, through 12 towering stone arches that are composed from rough aerated concrete, evoking a scene of bleached concrete ruins.

Taking initial inspiration from ‘a staircase in Robert Venturi’s Vanna House in Philadelphia that leads nowhere’, Archetypes, by Swedish product designer and curator Petra Lilja, follows a similar visual narrative. A subtly surreal collection of furniture, lighting and small objects are made from glass, clay and wood pigmented with muted pastel wax dyes. ‘I looked not only to architecture for reference, but to the symbolism of the shapes in art and literature to find more spiritual references,’ Lilja tells LS:N Global. Taking inspiration from symbolic architectural forms, iconography and modern relics, Lilja’s collection is evocative of themes in our Ascetic Contemplation design direction.

LS:N Global will be reporting from Stockholm Furniture Fair all week. Keep an eye on our Shows and Seed sections.
