Real deal: Jewellery magazine questions the meaning of fake

14 : 08 : 2014 Current Obsession : Depot Basel : Value

Basel, Eindhoven – For its latest issue, jewellery magazine Current Obsession focused its attention on a subject inherent to the jewellery trade: notions of artificiality and value.

Earlier this year, the magazine collaborated with Swiss design collective Depot Basel on the Craft & Bling Bling exhibition to present the work of 12 jewellery designers reflecting on the subject of fake. The collaborative curatorial effort extended to a dedicated magazine issue, with the back cover of the publication doubling as the exhibition catalogue.

‘Fake deconstructs a given identity and makes deep marks into the superficiality of value, production and glamour,’ say the editors of Current Obsession magazine in the introduction… 'The transient nature of Fake should not be considered less important than the static and idle nature of the given original.’

We will explore the notions of artificiality and value in a luxury context in our Autumn/Winter 2014 Trend Briefing, The Me-conomy. For more information, visit The Future Laboratory Eventbrite page.
