Milan – In conjunction with his current exhibition at the Serpentine Galleries in London, Italian designer Martino Gamper will set up shop in the windows of Milanese department store La Rinascente, repairing different household items as passers-by watch.

Part of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, Gamper’s workshop, In a State of Repair, will take place in eight windows of La Rinascente, each featuring different categories of products, including toys, bikes, chairs, electronics and clothing. Members of the public are invited to bring their own goods for the designer to transform through repair.

Gamper says he hopes that the installation will ‘encourage people to keep their belongings rather than discard them, to improve what they buy rather than throw it away’. It is an extension of his Serpentine exhibition in London, design is a state of mind, which explores design and how the function of objects change through ownership.

LS:N Global will be attending the Salone Internazionale del Mobile from 8 to 13 April. For more on the designers to see, read our Show Preview.
