San Francisco – IGN Entertainment has created an online interactive museum displaying the generations of the Super Mario video game franchise.
The website, built by Intel’s HTML5 Hub in collaboration with IGN, explores the history of Mario with a compilation of the most important evolutionary upgrades of the game franchise. The digital exhibit gives different generations a chance to look back at their experience with the Italian plumber character.
As visitors scroll through the site in chronological order, from Mario’s first appearance in the 1980s to his latest adventures in 2013, they discover the multi-faceted evolution of the character, from his companions’ roles to the idea behind spin-offs such as Mario Kart.
In a rejection of today’s pristine internet, people are increasingly nostalgic for the rough and lo-fi aesthetic of the 1990s. For more, read our Netstalgia macrotrend.
