Women's work: The case for boardroom equality

London – At our Womenomics Network Evening at The Future Laboratory HQ last week, LS:N Global editor Lucie Greene interviewed Niamh Corbett. London – At our Womenomics Network Evening at The Future Laboratory HQ last week, LS:N Global editor Lucie Greene interviewed Niamh Corbett. As well as being vice-president of investment banking at Morgan Stanley, Corbett is a member of the 30% Club, a London-based group dedicated to bringing more women onto corporate boards. At present, women account for only 16.7% of UK boardrooms.

Corbett spoke about the systemic and sociological issues that women face in the workplace and the economic effects that increasing the number of women on corporate boards could have.

‘Across industry in general, the intake [of women] is often 50/50 at graduate level,’ said Corbett. ‘And yet, once you get to the top, it’s one in 10, if that. Somewhere along the line women are falling out. So if you can unblock that economic drain, it will be good for business and make economic sense.’

Watch the above video for more on what it means to be a woman in the workplace. Check our Seed section for more insights from experts who attended the Network Evening.
