North Carolina – Start-up Sherwood Brewery, based near Charlotte, North Carolina, has used socialist propaganda, armoury and the legend of Sherwood Forest and Robin Hood as the inspiration behind its brand identity.
The design, created by Think Brand Studio, combines these themes through a combination of arrows, red communist stars and military-style symbols on the logo, bottle caps, labels and through the Sherwood name.
The result is slick, intense-looking packaging with the main label standing out like a socialist poster and the arrows and heraldry symbols emulating the sense of strength and power.
The intention of the brand is to bring communities together to brew beer, and the Robin Hood theme relays stories of Robin Hood and his outlaws sharing beer in Sherwood Forest.
Designers are experimenting with emblems in their branding and creating graphic identities that reveal the characteristics of their brand. For more, read our Emblematic design direction.
