London – The Wonderwater pop-up café opened in Leila’s Shop in Shoreditch during the London Design Festival in a bid to explore the relationship between water consumption and food.
The menus featured a water footprint count showing how much water was used to make each dish. The aim was to create awareness of carbon footprints, and to highlight the fact that water is a precious commodity.
‘We wanted to use design to communicate these critical ecological issues,’ says curator Jane Withers. ‘Water is already affecting the availability and price of food, so this issue needs to come to the fore.’
Last year, Wonderwater created a similar project for Beijing Design Week. For more on how people and brands are taking a holistic view of their impact on the environment, read our Footprint Futures microtrend.
