The Hague, Netherlands – Ikha is a new restaurant, created by the Oatmeal Studio design collective, that takes self-service dining to a new level.
Diners visiting the Dutch restaurant fill in their orders with a pencil, and are then asked to set their own table. Visitors can choose from a selection of materials, and cut their own tablecloth and placemats from wallpaper samples.
The restaurant is fully fitted with Ikea furniture, arranged to imitate the winding, maze-like halls of a typical Ikea store.
LS:N Global has identified several examples of designers re-appropriating and hacking Ikea furniture to give it new meaning and purpose. To find out more about what hacking culture means to your brand, read our Hacktivism microtrend.
