Hands of time: The collaboration of the hour

Milan – The passion, care and handcraft of artisans has always been essential to Italian furniture. Curator Simona Casarotto has taken this truth as a starting point for her exhibition at the Milan design fair this week, Edition of 6.

‘I want to see how craft and design can learn from each other,’ she told LS:N Global yesterday.

To produce the limited-edition collection, Casarotto paired six designers with five artisans who work with materials such as marble, glass and iron.

Time is an important dimension in the collection. ‘It takes time to carefully make these pieces,’ says Casarotto. ‘And it’s important that each object lasts, that it is used again and again. This is a vital first step towards sustainability.’
