Tovala is a smart take on meal subscriptions

13 : 07 : 2017 Food : Technology : Wellness

US – The start-up’s smart oven enables users to easily cook high-quality meals.

Subscribers to the Tovala Meal subscription plan can use the Smart Oven to scan the barcode on their meal, which links to the cloud to download the required cooking time and temperature. According to a statement from the brand, the average customer uses the Smart Oven 20 times within the first month of purchase.

The meals feature a range of fresh, clean ingredients and are pre-prepared. Each Tovala meal can be cooked in under 20 minutes – nearly 50% faster than other meal kits on the market. The service, which also enables users to create their own meals, aims to help users produce high-quality dishes with minimal fuss.

As LS:N Global reported in 2016, meal kit providers are struggling to retain customers, creating an opportunity for brands to create more effective and attractive services. According to market research firm 1010data, only 10% of consumers remained loyal to the popular meal kit provider Blue Apron after six months.

The Big Picture

  • In a bid to reach Millennial and Generation Z consumers, Vice Media has launched a meal kit that enables customers to replicate the dishes they see online
