11 : 04 : 2017 Workplace Futures : Focus : The Focus Filter

Global – Faced with distracting surroundings and a shortage of private spaces, employees are struggling to focus, and businesses are rethinking office design to better serve their workforce.

  • 37% of employees are disengaged and dissatisfied with their work environment, according to Steelcase
  • Employee sentiment improves when workers are given a choice of private, semi-private and open-plan workspaces, according to Gensle

Despite the large number of open-plan offices, the productivity of such spaces has been doubted. ‘Shared work environments are associated with increases in distraction, negative relationships and distrust,’ says Rachel Morrison, senior lecturer at the Auckland University of Technology.

Today Studios by London design agency Accept & Proceed provides an open-plan environment with an understated interior and simple iconographic branding that aims to help workers to focus.

‘As a designer you don’t want to be in a place shouting ‘fun’,’ Matthew Jones, partner and creative director at Accept & Proceed, tells LS:N Global.
