Paris – Japanese brand MIYAVIE bridges the gap between art and product design with a collection of sculptural loungers.
Revealed at Maison & Objet Paris 2016, the collection is made from thin filaments of polyethylene resin that have been melted down and weaved together. The combination of traditional techniques and innovative materials is designed to enhance the sitting experience.
‘The spring-like structure disperses pressure evenly to support the body,’ artist Koichiro Kimura tells LS:N Global. ‘Each part, from the materials and techniques used to the collection’s longevity and hygienic properties, aims to create a harmonious lifestyle.’
Bridging the gap between art and product design, the collection invites users to appreciate the form and function of an unusual material, and to consider the pieces as art objects.
In line with our macrotrend The Optimised Self, the range caters for consumers who seek to enhance every aspect of their lives.
