Digital nature

29 : 07 : 2015 POSTmatter : Fig-2 : ICA

London – Digital magazine POSTmatter has collaborated with the exhibition series Fig-2 to examine the relationship between nature and the digital world at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA).

  • The collaboration is part of Fig-2’s 50-week residency at the ICA
  • ‘The influence of the digital world extends so far now that it is often felt almost imperceptibly’ – Louise Benson, editor-in-chief at POSTmatter

The exhibition features a series of works depicting scenes of nature by artists such as Mark Dorf, Clement Valla and Jacob Kirkegaard alongside potted plants.

The project also includes essays composed within a one-hour time limit and web chats. In addition to the physical exhibition, POSTmatter has released a digital counterpart on its website.

‘It was important that we explored how our digital magazine interacted with the physical gallery space,’ Benson tells LS:N Global. ‘By inviting writers, curators and artists to visit and respond to the exhibition over the course of the week, we embraced the performative aspect of inhabiting the space itself and opened up this engagement to a wider online audience.’

The Big Picture: Benson hopes that the exhibition will encourage visitors to ‘to reconsider their own relationship with the global landscape’. Find out how other brands are leading consumers to reconsider this relationship with our Whole-system Thinking macrotrend.
