Sky pods: Tiny hotels sprout above Dutch town

02 : 09 : 2014 Hotel : Netherlands : Symbiotic Architecture

Deventer, Netherlands – A group of Dutch designers have created Lucy in the Sky, a collection of three one-room hotel pods overlooking the industrial waterfront area of a medieval town.

The Lucy pods were conceived as both functioning hotels and art objects. The project ‘combines the power of architects and visual artists into an extraordinary urban retreat,’ the organisers explain on their website. ‘When sleeping in a Lucy, you will spend your night in a work of art.’

The pods offer picturesque views or privacy as needed and amenities that include a luxury-model bed from Dutch company Auping, a piece of textile art that can serve as a blanket on cold nights and bed covers produced by the TextielMuseum in the Dutch town of Tilburg.

Each pod differs in architectural style. Lucy Cube is a minimal structure that sits on top of a grain hopper, Lucy GLXY is a round pod inspired by space travel and Lucy PWR is a cubist design featuring solar panels.

The project is a great example of Symbiotic Architecture, as well as Art-spitality.
