The amount of data we produce is growing exponentially and radically transforming our lives. The Big Bang Data exhibition at Somerset House examines the implications behind this rapid growth and urges people to consider its positive and negative effects in a range of contexts and applications.

Black Shoals: Dark Matter by Lise Autogena and Joshua Portway features a planetarium-stye projection of live trading data from stock markets across the globe. Companies are represented as stars, which vary in brightness and slowly drift to visualise their performance and the flow of trade, creating an immersive, contemplative space.

The Netstalgic branding of the exhibition references visual cues from the early days of the internet, as first explored in LS:N Global’s design direction Digital Surrealism in 2012.

The Big Picture

From taking a selfie to shopping online, our online activity leaves a digital footprint. In the Personal Information Economy, we look at how consumers are increasingly aware of the value of their personal data.
