The Hemnet Home byTham & Videgård, Sweden

Sweden – Property agency Hemnet has built a home from big data.

  • Architects analysed information from property searches between January and October 2014
  • More than 2m users, over 20% of the country’s population, have contributed to the design

Architects Tham & Videgård analysed data from 200m clicks on Hemnet’s website to determine the country’s most statistically sought-after home. Combining prerequisite criteria with Swedish design tropes, including a red timber façade and functional box shape, the House of Clicks is a residence any Swede would be happy to call their own.

‘The aim was to create architecture that combines statistics with the quality of craftsmanship and material presence,’ say the architects. The home is testament to the power of big data and will be available to purchase for a price expected to start from around £215,000 (€295,320, $328,390).

The Big Picture: Big data isn’t always daunting. Designers and architects using the Personal Information Economy are creating beautiful works from people’s information.
