Wynn Las Vegas will be the first resort in the world to enable guests to verbally control certain aspects of their room. Further systems such as a personal assistant service, will be added to the device at a later date.

The Amazon Echo connects to the Alexa Voice Service application programming interface (API) to answer users’ questions, read the news and control smart devices. At present, there are more than 6,000 skills available for Alexa in the US.

‘The thing that Amazon has done with Alexa is quite perfect,’ says Stephen Wynn, chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts. ‘If I have ever seen anything in my 49 years of developing resorts that has made our job of delivering a perfect experience to our guests easier and helped us to get to another level, it is Alexa.’

According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), Amazon has sold 5.1m Echo devices in the US since its launch in 2014, and awareness of the device among US Amazon customers increased to 69% in September 2016, up from 20% in March 2015.
