Frying high: Bakery puts dessert on a pedestal

23 : 09 : 2013 Design : Grey : The Tomorrow Store

Barcelona – Self-styled chocolate kitchen Chök holds chocolate confectionery in such high regard that it displays doughnuts as if they were fine jewellery.

The bakery offers a wide range of chocolate products, from macarons, cupcakes and sweets to its signature product, chök, a gourmet doughnut made with less sugar and fat.

Despite the sweet nature of its baked goods, the interiors scheme of Chök is anything but saccharine. Instead, Intsight Studio designed a space that is light and bright, with a colour palette of pale grey, white and black to offset the baked goods on offer. Carved woodwork and stained glass windows at the entrance and the unique display of the goods add a boutique element to the space.

The presentation of a fried dessert such as a doughnut in a refined setting is emblematic of the Lo-Hi Retail microtrend we identified last year, but in a food context.
