New York – Ethical luxury label Maiyet officially opened its new flagship retail space in Manhattan’s Soho district this week at a party coinciding with New York Fashion Week.
The Maiyet store, designed by Ciguë Architects, reflects both the brand’s global network of artisans and the Soho area’s reputation for chic, airy minimalism. Dressing room doors are covered in cashmere, and crafted boxes are set into sleek white walls to display fine jewellery.
The event also reflected Maiyet’s partnerships with artisans closer to home. Ryan Rice from the buzzy Brooklyn restaurant Roberta’s served oysters and sturgeon caviar to guests, while Maiyet teamed up with Brooklyn’s Van Brunt Stillhouse to offer guests its own branded whiskey.
The Brooklyn flair at the opening was well suited to Maiyet’s emphasis on artisanal, traditional techniques, while the store itself represents Maiyet’s confidence that Manhattanites are interested in luxury that embraces craft processes and ethical labour.
