Hong Kong – A new hotel, set to open in August, has been inspired by the Chinese Moon Festival and its most famous fairy tale.
Mira Moon, designed by Marcel Wanders of Wanders & yoo, is a 91-bedroom luxury hotel taking visual inspiration from a Moon Festival legend that tells of an immortal woman banished to the celestial body with her companion the Jade Rabbit. The Moon Festival is the country’s second most important (after the Chinese New Year Festival), and honours the day of the year when the moon’s brightness and clarity are at their peak.
Mira Moon merges a whimsical past with the luxury of contemporary Hong Kong. Colourful murals, mirrored glass and traditional, wood-carved panels immerse guests in fantastical imagery of flowers, rabbits, moonlight and other hallmarks of the festival’s mythology.
