Elementary design: Kitchenware crafted from marble

15 : 05 : 2013 Luxury : Uneeto : Regionalism

Italy – Florentine design firm Studio Lievito has created a set of marble kitchen utensils for third-generation Italian design company Opinion Ciatti.

Studio Lievito’s three young designers crafted the four tools, called Elementare, from white Carrara marble and stainless steel.

The four basic shapes perform different functions. The sphere acts as a pestle, the cylinder as a rolling pin and meat pounder, the cube as a fish-scaler and the prism shelters blades to mince vegetables and herbs. The tools sit neatly in a marble cradle when not in use.

Studio Lievito, established in 2010, prides itself on its use of artisanal techniques and its adherence to the slow design principles of craftsmanship and regionalism. Its other collaborations include work with Italian cashmere company Uneeto and Tuscan porcelain maker Richard Ginori 1735.

The set’s treatment of luxury materials is a good example of our Geo Luxe design direction. For more, read our Geo Luxe micro Inspire.
