Fashion explorer: Lacoste on futuristic adventure

14 : 02 : 2013 Leather : Extreme Conditions : Extreme Weather

New York – Lacoste’s autumn/winter 2013 ready-to-wear collection, which was on show at New York Fashion Week, featured a futuristic and Antarctic expedition theme, reflecting a year of unpredictable and extreme weather conditions in 2012.

Felipe Oliveira Baptista, artistic director of Lacoste, created a collection that is ahead of its time and conveys a sense of being prepared for every weather eventuality.

In the women’s line-up, tops with oversized and rounded shoulders and diagonal zips featured heavily. There were also pieces made from leather, Milano jersey and foam, alongside the cotton pique fabric that has become a Lacoste signature.

In the men’s collection, leather and wool were combined on sweatshirts and trousers to resemble armour, while colour-blocking appeared on oversized sweatshirts.

Iceberg prints were used across the collection on dresses, coats and jackets, and transparent latex raincoats revealed brighter pieces underneath.

The result is an elaborate and adventurous and sporty collection to mark the French brand’s 80th anniversary.
