Istanbul – An installation showing the creation of a 3D-printed bookshelf is being presented at Istanbul Design Biennale.
The Multithread bookshelf by Clemens Weisshaar and Reed Kram was made using custom-built software and a 3D printer. An abstract frame was formed which has a horizontal surface within a web of thin bars. With the use of an algorithm, the stress areas of the material were tested in real time which then defined the shape.
The bold structure has clearly been crafted with digital tools and has a vibrant gradient of saturated colour. It is in line with the real-world spaces featured in LS:N Global’s Digital Surrealism macro inspire.
For more coverage of the projects, exhibitions and key trends from the first Istanbul Design Biennale look out for our forthcoming show report.
