Rotterdam – Dutch architecture firm DUS Architects gave new meaning to the idea of pop-up by creating a pavilion made out of bubbles.
The Bubble Building was built as part of the “International Architecture Bienniale Rotterdam”: http://www.iabr.nl/EN and was open to the public from 20 April to 6 May.
Visitors to the Rotterdam square where the building stood were encouraged to construct the soapy walls themselves by lifting large metal frames from steel pools filled with soapy liquid.
The design is a clear reference to the economic crisis and property bubble, yet when this bubble bursts, it is less catastrophic.
By bringing consumers together and engaging them in an unusual activity, the architecture firm behind this project is tapping into the Conviviality Culture macrotrend.
