The Netherlands – Rotterdam-based designer Chris Kabel has created the Hidden Vases series that explores a reductionist approach to displaying flowers by hiding the location of the water source.
Hidden Vases features water containers placed upside down on a dish with a surrounding metal framework holding the plant stems in place, which subsequently hide the vessel inside. Based on the mechanics of a chicken watering system, the water then drips steadily into the tray to reach the plant stems.
The naïve appearance of the structure and the reductionist approach to an everyday object make them a great example of Rurban Reductionism. Find out more in our Dutch Design Week 2011 design direction.
