Helsinki – A specialist shop in the Finnish capital is selling traditional Puukos knives crafted in Lapland by manufacturer Marttiini.
‘We wanted to respect the long tradition of Marttiini and give a contemporary feel at the same time,’ says Teemu Nojonen, creative director and partner at Suunnittelutoimisto Amerikka, which designed the store.
The small Marttiini outlet stocks 160 knives displayed on wooden blocks and fixed by magnets and that can be raised to reveal storage space behind. The other knives are displayed in bunches like flowers in timber vases mounted on the walls.
‘The design derives from the shapes of the wood carved with a knife, but it also has a resemblance to Finnish nature as well,’ explains Nojonen.
