Amsterdam – Dutch designer Studio Bram Geenen has created a set of furniture designed to be as light as possible.
The Light-room range, comprising a table, a stool, two chairs and a set of shelves, weighs just 16.5 pounds in total. Each piece was manufactured using complicated techniques aimed at minimising materials and energy consumption.
The Tensile Table, for example, was produced by fixing knitted silk into shape using a film of resin, while the SLS Chair was designed with the aid of 3D printing technology to manufacture a complex lightweight structure.
Many designers are looking for new and unexpected ways to manufacture furniture. For more examples, see our Anarconomy Decade report.
