Groningen, the Netherlands – The recently renovated Groninger Museum features the work of Dutch designers Studio Job.
The design studio has created the Job Lounge reception hall, based on 19th-century private gentlemen’s clubs and filtered through its unique sensibilities.
The interior undercuts the museum’s opulence with playful elements. Gothic castle chairs are made of plastic, the fountain is a dripping tap suspended above a large bucket – and vivid stained-glass windows depict scenes of industrial excess.
Other areas of the newly reopened museum were designed by Maarten Baas and Jaime Hayón.
Bringing together clashing elements of old and new, high and low culture, Studio Job’s designs draw on the themes that we explore in our Dreamtelligence macro trend report.
