Sweden – Telecommunications company Telia has developed a design-led alternative to employee codes of conduct.

  • The company’s codes were designed by Wolff Olins and are presented in the form of GIFs and an interactive game
  • They were distributed to 26,000 Telia employees in more than 10 countries

The company enlisted design studio Wolff Olins to put together a number of GIFs and an interactive game that covered the company’s various policies and practices in a simplified, memorable way. The policy designs are easy to understand and create a new visual language for Telia, and include policies such as ‘don’t do insider trading’ and ‘don’t accept shiny gifts’.

‘It was important that our content found the right balance: ridiculous enough to be surprising and memorable but not so much that it detracted from the message or caused offence,’ reads the Wolff Olins site.

The initial concepts were tested with the company’s staff, with the final copy marking the company’s new tone of voice. Alongside the GIFs and game, the codes were shared in the form of a broadsheet newspaper and on a dedicated website. According to Wolff Olins, the campaign has had 20,000 staff views in the first eight weeks.

The Big Picture

By using simplified, interactive design, companies are re-engaging with their employees in often overlooked policies and practices. For more, read how 360i developed a simplified, visual-led recruitment website to attract Generation D employees.
