02 : 11 : 2016 Gateway Garments : Wearable Tech : The New Stand

New York – Men’s clothing brand Rochambeau has designed a smart bomber jacket that enables the wearer to access exclusive events.

  • The limited-edition piece will be sold for £515 ($630, €570) through underground retailer The New Stand
  • The launch is part of Internet of Things company EVRYTHING’s #BornDigital campaign

The Bright Bmbr, which features near-field communication (NFC) chips and quick-response (QR) codes inside the jacket sleeve, can be scanned using a smartphone app to unlock a series of curated experiences across the city, from a tasting menu for two to a personal art gallery tour.

The jacket is a collaboration between Rochambeau, EVRYTHNG and pressure-sensitive materials manufacturer Avery Dennison RBIS. The piece is being heralded as an important step towards wearable technology with an emphasis on aesthetics rather than gimmicks.

‘A Rochambeau Bright Bmbr smart jacket has a digital life of its own and connects you into the world of art and culture that inspired the brand,’ explains Laurence Chandler, co-founder of Rochambeau.

The Big Picture

Gateway Garments enable consumers to broaden their cultural horizons through their fashion choices and mark a bold new step for the wearable technology industry.
