Tel Aviv – The Even earphones have been designed with the knowledge that each ear hears the world a little differently.

  • Even adapts the settings of each earbud independently of the other
  • Creator MeQ describes the headphones as ‘eyeglasses for the ears’

Even claims superior audio quality by calibrating each earphone separately from the other, without the need for an app. Using an audio test, which can be repeated at any point, the earphones build an EarPrint, a map of the sensitivity of each ear. This information is then fed to an algorithm, which converts the sound with the controller.

People interested in how this works can take the audio test on Even’s website, which includes a demonstration of how its earphones compare with similar products available. CEO Danny Aronson is quick to point out that Even is not a medical device. ‘Our only health-related observation is that users tend to lower the volume of listening after the EarPrint compensation, and lower volume is healthier for your ears,’ he says.

The Big Picture

To appeal to today’s optimisers, headphones need to do more than offer good sound quality. HearAngel helps people to manage their Daily Sound Allowance (DSA), while Doppler Labs has created a pair of headphones that lets wearers filter the world around them.
