Milan Salone 2016 Preview: Elemental dining

30 : 03 : 2016 Caesarstone : Tom Dixon : Arabeschi Di Latte

Milan – Quartz surface manufacturer Caesarstone and product designer Tom Dixon have created a temporary restaurant with a menu inspired by the elements.

  • The Restaurant transforms a 17th-century building into a novel dining experience
  • Each of its kitchens is inspired by one of the four elements

The Fire kitchen uses Caesarstone’s black and dark grey quartz, and features blackened beams and hints of gold, providing a rich sensorial backdrop to Arabeschi di Latte’s menu of charred layered dough, spices and savoury cheese.

A spectrum of grey and white quartz evokes an icy tundra in another room where diners will be treated to a variation on a traditionalstracciatella, made with frozen ingredients that will slowly thaw in a hot broth.

‘We want to inspire architects and designers through a radical interpretation of how food and surfaces can interact in different ways, delivering a food experience that challenges all the senses in an exercise of materiality, luminosity and texture,’ says Dixon.

The Big Picture

Although tasting menus are dictatorial by nature, restaurants are increasingly elevating the dining experience rather than feeding the chef’s ego.
