Social stay

10 : 02 : 2016 Hotel Cappuccino : Shared Value : Recycling

Seoul – Hotel Cappuccino asks guests to think carefully about the things they consume during their stay.

  • The hotel is pioneering a shared value scheme that makes ethical consumption a normal part of each stay
  • Guests receive perks such as free drinks in exchange for not overusing the hotel’s amenities

Each of Hotel Cappuccino’s 141 rooms features an Earn & Giveaway box filled with a selection of typical guest room items such as towels. Attached to each is a label that reads ‘Do you really need me?’ – prompting guests to reconsider their usual consumption habits.

‘From the first stage of its conception, Hotel Cappuccino has endeavoured to create a platform for growing together with local communities,’ a spokesperson said in a statement.

Items that are not used are donated to charitable causes and a partnership with local organisation OTCAN enables guests to leave behind unwanted items of clothing. Guests can also donate by ordering from the Angel Menu at the hotel’s restaurant, café or bar, with some of the proceeds going to developmental aid organisation water.org.

The Big Picture

Sustainable luxury doesn’t have to be a compromise. In 2015, W Hotels’ turndown service became a lot greener thanks to a collaboration with sustainability group Ekocycle.
