Worth noting

22 : 12 : 2015 Note : Dining Theatre : Unibail-Ramdico

Stockholm – Multidisciplinary design studio Note has created a versatile Dining Theatre for the Mall of Scandinavia, Europe’s largest shopping centre.

  • The modular units, tables and light installations can be used together or individually to cater to the mall’s roster of events
  • A changing rota of top chefs will cook in front of diners in the open-plan space

‘What can we give to people that they cannot buy on the internet?’ – was the question proposed to Note by mall developers Unibail-Rodamco when designing its new food area.

Adopting a subtle and detailed approach, the studio responded with a minimal furniture range inspired by food. ‘We took beautiful and durable materials like wood, marble, leather and iron, and tried to recreate the feeling you get when eating something delicious,’ the studio said in a statement.

The series of cooking stations, leather-topped benches and marble units can be configured in various formations and are designed to complement the visiting chef or event. ‘When you’re there, sitting on a bench eating your meal, looking at a Michelin-starred chef creating a magical meal, you can feel the quality of the food and the furniture surrounding you,’ the studio explained.

The Dining Theatre concept will become a standard part of Unibail-Rodamco’s forthcoming mall developments.

The Big Picture

Inspired by artist-in-residence programmes, permanent establishments are increasingly embracing the pop-up model. See our Chefs in Residence microtrend for more.
