Located along the shore of the IJmeer lake, the UrbanCampsite features a number of specially made miniature dwellings created by local artists. Atelier van Lieshout’s installation is made from toilets, showers and septic tanks, while Rob Sweere’s resembles a survival capsule that has crash-landed on earth.

Guests staying on-site can also participate in a number of workshops with the artists, designers and architects behind the installations. In one workshop, guests will be taught how to weld a stove out of scrap iron. A series of campfire conversations and performances will also take place on-site.

The Big Picture: Artists are pushing the boundaries of the boutique hotel, and are using hospitality as a medium for creative expression. Learn more by reading our Art-spitality microtrend.
