Salt Lake City – Virtual reality is being taken to the next level at The Void, a 4D entertainment centre that could change the face of gaming forever.

  • ‘More than watching a movie or playing a game, The Void will allow guests to truly live virtually any adventure’ – Ken Bretschneider, CEO and founder of The Void
  • The space has implications not just for gamers but also for training specialist servicemen

Players will be able to explore a cavernous 60 x 60-feet space designed to replicate the worlds they see in virtual reality. Donning custom virtual reality headgear and suits that provide haptic feedback, gamers will be able to feel that all-important sense of presence. Physical sensations, such as changes in elevation, touching and interacting with structures, air pressure and smells, will all be possible in an experience its creators say heralds the future of the entertainment industry. The Void is scheduled for completion in early 2016, and Bretschneider hopes to expand across America, Europe and Australia.

The Big Picture: Virtual reality is blurring the boundaries between our online and offline worlds. For more on how technology is creating new levels of interaction with the world around us read our Awakening Tech trend tracker.
