Milan – Designer Martino Gamper found inspiration in the often overlooked corners of a room to create a new window display concept for Prada stores across the world.
First launched in the Milan flagship store, before being extended to 800 locations worldwide, Gamper’s installation, Corners, uses carefully cut and constructed wood that creates the illusion of a corner and a perspective of depth in shallow window spaces.
Gamper experimented with different wood grains and veneers to create different displays, all sharing the common theme of corners. ‘The design draws its inspiration from perspective, fragments and contrasts between natural materials,’ said Gamper in a statement. ‘Those elements are enhanced by the simplicity of a corner, which is a common thread for all of the displays.’
Designers are finding new inspiration from wood, creating unexpected shapes and construction methods to show the potential of the material. For more, see our Stockholm Design Week 2014 design direction.
