Berlin – An artist has created three records from melting glacier ice to highlight global warming.
‘Langjökull, Snæfellsjökull, Solheimajökull’, a work by Berlin and London-based sound installation artist Katie Paterson, draws attention to the disappearing world.
Paterson re-froze glacier meltwater from the three glaciers in Iceland with her recorded music imprinted on its surface. She then played each record on a gramophone as it slowly melted. It took two hours for the ice to thaw and the process added to the composition, creating a unique, fluid sound that eventually liquefied forever.
The installation draws on some of the themes that we explore in our Retail Report: consumers are increasingly demanding consumption that expresses their ethical, environmental and community ideals.
